Venus

Human representations were rare in the Palaeolithic.

Except, that is, for the Venuses: female figurines sculpted in the round in stone, ivory or clay. Some 250 examples have been discovered across Eurasia. The earliest Venus found (Hohle Fels, Germany) dates back 38,000 years and is the oldest example of figurative art in the world.
